The Cisco VNI Projects global IP traffic growth
Cisco has developed a forecast model to estimate future global IP traffic growth. The current Cisco Visual Network Index (VNI) Forecast and Methodology. 2011 – 2016 is based on Cisco analysis and independent analysts’ forecasts.
Below is the forecast specific to online video
Globally, Internet video traffic will be 54% of all consumer Internet traffic in 2016, up from 51% in 2011.
Globally, 3 trillion minutes of video content will cross the Internet each month in 2016, up from 735 billion in 2011.
Globally, 3 trillion minutes (6 million years) of video content will cross the Internet each month in 2016. That’s 1.2 million minutes of video streamed or downloaded every second.
Video exceeds half of Global consumer Internet traffic by year-end 2011.
Globally, long form Internet video traffic is 5.3X greater than short form Internet video traffic.
Globally, Internet-Video-to-TV traffic will be 11% of consumer Internet video traffic in 2016, up from 8% in 2011.
Globally, Internet-Video-to-TV traffic will increase 6-fold between 2011 and 2016.
