When Annie’s husband John dies of leukaemia, she and best friend Chris decide to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room.
They manage to persuade four fellow WI members to pose nude with them for an “alternative” calendar, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer, Lawrence.

The news of the women’s charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales.

The calendar is a success, but Chris and Annie’s friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-‐found fame.

Based on the true story of eleven WI members who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund, Calendar Girls is the fastest selling play in British theatre history.

I shall be playing the roles of John and Liam.

Judging NAFA ShowFest

Another fun evening at NAFA’s ShowFest The Randwick Ritz and a good array of films to test our judging capability. I went for Cockatoo as my favourite pipping Maiden as it just emotionally connected with me more than Maiden, but the two were both very very strong. The art direction in Maiden was simply outstanding, and I didn’t even know it was Russell Dykstra until half way through. Great performances from his wife and kids as well. Lie to Me was my third choice, and an exellent effort for a first time Writer and Director!

Always a good catch up as well. Steven Gregory from AT2 and Audition Magic was my judge in crime, and good to hang out with Alex Broun and John O’Hare in the bar afterwards. Plenty of British Lions banter with Alex, and the three of us were flabbergasted when a beautiful 18 year old actress came to talk to us and admitted she had never heard of The Smiths. I promptly begged her to go and check out ‘There is a light than never goes out‘.

Australia. Land of quattro – An interactive TV spot for Audi

Great work from the Holler team.

Australia. Land of quattro – An interactive TV spot for Audi from Mike Hill on Vimeo.

Australia. Land of quattro is no ordinary TV commercial.

We hacked quadcopters to track our car through Australia and create a multi-angle, multi-screen, interactive commercial – designed to be instantly and infinitely remixable from the comfort of your couch.

To achieve this we had to reinvent the way we shot a commercial. We used 'dynamic waypoint' hacked quadcopters (arduino) and 3DR telemetry tracking technology to match our Audi quattro turn for turn and capture each scene over and over again, so you can take the director's chair and create your very own commercial to share.

Our Mercy Campaign video for The Bali Nine gets launched – please watch AND sign the petition

Our three theatre productions of Bondi Dreamimg (www.bondidreaming.com.au), the fictitious interpretation of life on death row for The Bali Nine, led us to Bali and meet the guys in Kerobokan prison. We were deeply moved by this week we spent with them, and when asked by The Mercy Campaign to put together a promotional video we were ony too pleased to oblige.

Hopefully the video makes you evaluate the situation, and encourages you to sign the clemency petition to the Indonesion President.

The Mercy Campaign formed in Melbourne, Australia and are four lawyers and a journalist, who oppose the death penalty.
With the full support of the Chan and Sukumaran families who also appear in the film, The Mercy Campaign send a simple message to the Indonesian president: please spare the life of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.
For more information and to sign the petition at mercycampaign.org

Calendar Girls

www image

Very excited to be back on the boards again in October and playing a role that is very close to my heart – Mr John Baker in Calendar Girls

Often described as the female version of The Full Monty (one scene was filmed in our old house in Sheffield!), Calendar Girls is a true story.

The hugely successful play by Tim Firth first played at Chichester Festival Theatre on 5th September 2008.

For my audition, I did my best to match the sheer brilliance of the dearly departed Mr Pete Posthlethwaite and his memorable monologue rejecting the award in Brassed Off. Gets me every time. RIP Mr Pete.
